OIC Must Use All Its Capabilities to Thwart Threats Against Islamic World

Khosrow Safa-Taj told the Mehr News Agency that the OIC currently faces several challenges, including the U.S.-British occupation of Iraq, the increasing atrocities of the Zionist regime in Palestine, and the failure of the road map peace initiative.

“The OIC’s 10th Summit is being held at one of the most critical junctures of the organization’s history and at a time when the organization is clearly inactive and indecisive in regard to problems of the Muslim world,” he said.

“Under these conditions, the OIC should not content itself with merely issuing statements against the policies of the United States and Israel,” he added.

Safa-Taj said that formulating a common position among Muslim states toward threats and expanding economic and political links in the Islamic world are important tasks of the OIC.     

He expressed regret that the organization has failed to address the most challenging threat against Muslim states –- the expansionist aspirations of the Zionist regime, its occupation of Arab territories, and its recent military attack against its Muslim neighbor.

“The OIC has merely issued statements condemning Israel’s aggressive measures against its Muslim neighbors. However, Israel has ignored not only the OIC statements but also those of the UN with the support of the White House,” he said.”

Safa-Taj went on to say that the OIC should boycott the goods of the U.S., Israel, and certain European states and cut off oil exports to those countries in order to publicize the problems of the Islamic world.        

He also expressed regret that certain Muslim states are swayed by the pressure of the U.S. and Israel to refrain from taking a position against their policies, and said the Islamic world is waiting for the outcome of the 10th OIC Summit in Malaysia.
